Due Diligence Engineer

Ornn

Job description

About Ornn

Ornn is building the financial infrastructure for AI compute. Our price indices are live on Bloomberg Terminal. We structure and trade compute hedging instruments. And we're now building a platform that brings exchange-grade mechanics like order management, matching, scheduling, and settlement to how compute capacity gets reserved and allocated. We're a lean team in New York, backed by leading venture and strategic investors.

About the Role

Today the technical review of a new operator gets split across people who already have other jobs, which makes it both a bottleneck on bringing supply onto the platform and the place a lot of our risk quietly sits.

You would own that review. When our supply team brings in a new operator, you are the person who reads the documentation and says whether the site is what it claims to be: racks and elevations, topology, power and cooling, heat exchangers, chassis, fiber and the network path. Then you run the process from there, chasing the gaps and driving to a yes or no rather than handing a list of questions to someone else.

You'll work alongside the supply team, who bring the operator in, and finance, who run the commercial side of the same review. The technical judgment is yours.

What You'll Do

  • Run the technical and IT review of every new supplier site: racks, topology, power and cooling, heat exchangers, chassis, cabling and network path.

  • Read operator documentation critically and find what is missing, not just what is there.

  • Project manage diligence end to end, chasing operators for the documents and answers you need and closing to a decision.

  • Set the standard for what an operator has to produce to get listed on Ornn, and tighten it as we learn.

  • Flag where a site's real capability does not match the service levels we are about to promise a customer.

  • Work with the supply team on new operators and with finance on commercial and financial diligence.

  • Stay close to capacity after it is signed, because what you find in diligence is what deployment and fleet operations inherit.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with data center infrastructure: power, cooling, racks, structured cabling and network topology.

  • Able to read site documentation, single line diagrams, rack elevations and network diagrams and tell whether they hold up.

  • Comfortable running a process, not only doing the review: owning the timeline, chasing people, closing items out.

  • Clear, direct writing. Your review has to be something a commercial team can act on.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Time at a neocloud, colocation provider, data center developer or hyperscaler, doing site reviews, commissioning or deployments.

  • A mechanical or electrical engineering background, or deep enterprise IT infrastructure experience.

  • Familiarity with GPU cluster builds, InfiniBand fabrics and liquid cooling.

  • Vendor or site due diligence in a commercial setting, where the output was a decision rather than a report.

  • Exposure to infrastructure or private equity diligence processes.

Why This Role Matters

Ornn promises customers availability on capacity it does not own. That promise is made at diligence, not at deployment. Every service credit we pay, every late deployment and every penalty traces back to something a site review either caught or missed. This role is the gate, and today the gate is a few people doing it between other jobs.

Compensation and Benefits

Benefits include competitive salary, meaningful equity, health coverage, free meals, and additional benefits. This is a senior role with significant impact and equity upside.

Equal Opportunity Statement

Ornn is committed to building a diverse team. We evaluate candidates based on their ability to do the work, not on pedigree or background. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences.
